Nov. 24, 1909: Transferred to Blackduck, MN from Funkley, MN as Agent M. & I. Ry. and Northern Express Co. Releiving C. E. Borden.
Nov. 24, 1909: Express transfer at Blackduck in charge of D. B. Newcomb route Agent for Northern Ex. Co.
Jan. 22, 1910: Operator E. W. Boyes, working as second trick telegrapher.
April 23, 1910: R. B. Hamilton working as second trick telegrapher.
July 15, 1910: After vacation was checked in again at Blackduck as Agent.
Aug. 16, 1910: Funkley, MN station was transferred from S. G. Bowman to E. O. King, both former helpers of mine.
Sept. 6, 1910: Old friends Bob and Eve McGinley with their show troupe in City Hall.
Oct. 29, 1909: Freight train wreck just south of Funkley. Exa North Condr C. F. Ditty, train derailed at Tafts No. 2. Blocked entire right of way.
Nov. 1909: Old trainman Condr. C. F. Ditty. Freight conductor served for many years on GN and M&I. Later carried U. S. Mail Rural Route.
1909 and 1910: Some old trainmen:
Dan O'Connors Freight conductor who was later killed at Margie, MN.
Coger Woods tramp brakeman. Do not know what became of him.
C. N. Shannon Conductor, discharged for running orders at Blackduck in Nov. 1909. Afterwards appointed Yard Master at North Bemidji which position he held for some years.
Dec. 1910: Met Ira Blackman, a traveling representative who proved to be a son of Prof. Blackman of the Public High School in Norwich, N. Y. in 1890.
Dec. 1, 1910: Pussyfoot Johnson closed all the saloons in Blackduck, MN.
Jan. 30, 1910: Louis Olson struck by train 46 at crossing just north of Blackduck Depot slight injury.
Jan. 30, 1910: In connection with Louis Olson injury, Condr. Milner arranged for man to be taken to Dr. Osborn. As I recall it this cost M & I $200.00.
June 17, 1910: Another accident just south of MP 110. Mangled remains of man found between rails by Golenbosky Condr 33, name proved to be Peterson.
Winter of 1909 and 1910: Great Warehousemans strike on all Railways caused much delay to local freight, etc. Much D.H.A. Short and Over freight which took many months to straighten out.
1910: M & I Lineman H. E. Stevens who remained in Railway service until taken with cancer died in NP Hospital some years later. A man who had many friends.
Dec. 17, 1910: In connection with the closing of the Blackduck Saloons by Pussyfoot Johnson and his deputys, a public committee headed by F. J. Barackman addressed President Wm. H. Taft at the White House, Washington D. C. as follows:
"We hartily approve splendid work of the Indian Department in closing saloons. Ninety percent of community are jubilant over supression of cursed traffic. Wish liquor treaties with Indians maintained and present work prosecuted vigorously. Businessmen here of same mind. Respectfully."
May 10, 1910: Jim Mead Sr. was run over by train 31 near south wye switch just south of section house. Picked up and brought to depot and hurried to Dr. Koch office at once. Dr. Koch amputated leg. Mead never regained consciousness after taking anesthetic.
Aug. 25, 1911: Water Mains were extended across right of way at street crossing north of depot.
Aug. 1911: The Blackduck Cooperage Company operating on their spur track where Cooperage Mill located. Manufacturers of barrel heads, etc.
Sept. 6, 1911: Clara and Arnold married at Big Falls. Ceremony took place in the little cottage where father and mother were living at the end of the street leading down to the Big Fork River.
