EXCELSIOR
Hurry up pop; hurry up mom!
Here's the roller-coaster, lots of fun.
Twenty cents a ride; see all over town,
Save so many steps, looking all around.
Daddy never was a piker,
Mom just cannot take a dare.
You're too slow that coaster's loaded
Wait a minute for the next.
Here it cones! be quick, step in
Don't let the young folks tramp you thin.
Now we're seated, this is fine,
All is ready for the spin.
"EXCELSIOR" the meaning now I know,
Ever upward and onward we go.
Gliding past the tree-tops,
Far above the flags.
Horrors! What a canyon
Into it we plaster,
Had I rocks within my pants
I could fall no faster.
Up we shoot from depths of darkness
Now I feel the seat beneath me
Now the sky looks brighter
And we can go no faster.
BANG. What hit me on the ear?
The sun was shining, now I see the stars.
Mom's dear old head is not a soft-ball
We took that curve on two wheeled cars.
Such piercing screams behind I hear
Was that a child, lost from the gear?
I did not say my prayers last night
But I will say them now.
Another valley in the mountains,
Looms deep before my eyes,
I must close them "ere we strike,
On those crags and rocks below.
Two dizzy curves to make,
One more flying leap,
And may I somewhere here o'er-take
The breath I lost on yonder peak.
Slower we come to a stop,
Here is the Exit and out you hop.
You've had your ride,
And now you must walk.
